"This certifies that Bird a son of James Hodges and his wife Ellen born on the 10th day of March 1885 at San Jose California received christian baptism on the 12th day of Aug. in the year of our Lord 1894 in New Almaden california. J. R. Wolfe Pastor." [Note: The 1894 and 1895 directories list a James Hodge living in New Almaden, working as a miner for the Quicksilver Mining Company; the name on the certificate is likely misspelled.]
