Description
Black and white photograph of McNeil and Shawrack Blacksmith Shop on Compton Boulevard west of Tamrind Street. Pictured in front of the shop are George Rogers, William Shawrack, Dick Heichew, Allen Kent, and Louis Page, Sr. A young girl is pictured holding one of the men's hands and another person is pictured in the carriage next to the shop. Anvil-shaped sign reads "Compton Carriage Company."
Caption on back of photograph reads: McNeil Blacksmith Ship 1895. Compton Boulevard west of Tamarind Street. McNeil and Shawrack Blacksmith shop 1895. George Rogers, Mr. Shamrack, Dick Heichew, Allen Kent (who had paint shop in rear-facing palm?) and Louis Page. Sr.
This collection consists of color and black and white photographs, negatives, postcard-backed photos, and tin-types. Subjects of the photographs include people, businesses, churches, houses, schools, farming, transportation, and natural disasters. Communities covered in this collection include Compton, Torrance, Carson, Dominguez, Redondo Beach, Lynwood, Lakewood, San Pedro, Wilmington, Los Angeles, Terminal Island, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
