Description
Photograph of a view of the Venice Midway and Lagoon, showing amusment rides and gondolas, ca.1920. The lagoon is pictured in the center left, where two gondola men tend their boats. Farther in the foreground, two men in suits and hats stand by the water's edge, and still farther in, a set of steps can be seen leading to a narrow boardwalk in the right foreground. In the background, the pier can be seen lined with a collection of amusment rides. Photoprint reads "Gondolas once were seen in the canals of Venice and in the Venice Lagoon. The beach town was the dream of Abbott Kinney who in 1904 began the project". Legible signs from left to right include: "Streets of Cair[o]", "Oriental [...]", "Maze", "The Chicken Farm", "Temple of Mirth", "Darkness & Dawn", "Exit" and "To Amphitheater".
