Description
Pictured on this circa 1965 postcard is the outdoor flower exhibit at the California State Fair. During the heat of the fair, the Hall of Flowers was one cool spot where folks flocked to take advantage of the refreshing mist left by the spray intended for the plants and bushes. The Hall of Flowers was slated for demolition when it burned down in 1972. In April of 1973 developer Marvin “Buzz” Oates purchased the 112.73 acres of the old State Fairgrounds and made arrangements to buy the 17.53 acre parking lot south of Broadway formerly used by fairgoers for a total nearing 1.5 million dollars.
