Description
V1p325 In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 325. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photo: "Ocean Beach & Great Highway. This is one of the very finest photos of this subject produced. 1917. (Note cloud effect)." Photo taken from the Cliff House looking southeast shows the north end of Great Highway. The large wooden building which has recently had two of its towers removed is the Hotaling Pavilion. The Seal Rock House which was immediately to its left has been torn down. South of the Hotaling Pavilion is Loof's Hippodrome, an amusement area which later became the core of Playland-At-The-Beach. Both windmills at the western end of Golden Gate Park are visible. The Sunset District beyond, at this date, was only populated at its west end. The seawall at the north end of the beach has been partially constructed. Many autos are parked next to it.
