In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 24.
In foreground the trunks of three trees march across the front of the photo; behind the middle one is a two story, flat-roofed house; entrance is covered by a roof which creates a balcony on the second floor; on the second floor there are five windows; to the right side is a partial fence and a bare tree and on the left a taller three story house is cut off by the photo; in front of the principal house two leafy trees flank the entrance; lawn in front with a sidewalk.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"Old brick house, erected in 1854 by F.C. Smith, operated a 'livery stable' in 1856, at '172-174' K street, bet. 6th & 7th street.
