Description
"Kikuyu patient successfully operated on by Dr. Uffman". Portrait of a young girl with a large growth in her right eye. The girl is looking down to the left of the image and there is a thatched grass hut behind her. Dr Uffman arrived with Rev. David Clement Ruffelle Scott, in 1901, when the Church of Scotland Mission (CSM) officially took over the management of the mission. Due to lack of facilities Dr. Uffman performed all operations on his dining room table. Dr. Uffman retired in 1905 to be replaced by Dr. John W. Arthur
