Description
Photograph of a panoramic view of downtown Los Angeles from First Street looking north, ca.1891-1898. The photograph appears to be taken from a 3rd-floor window or the roof of the Hotel Nadeau, at a point on 1st Street mid-block between Broadway & Spring Street. The Second Court House with clock tower is located on Pound Cake Hill (former site of the high school) in the center background. Most of the buildings are two- or three-story brick structures. Mostly roofs are visible. Legible signs include: "Henry J.A. Stuhr, OK Rosedale Whiskies, native wines & brandies", "Waverly [...], best to buy", "Larronde Block", and "Los Angeles ABC Tract Co.". The photograph features the following buildings: Second Court House (1891-1935) Henry J.A.
