Photograph caption dated May 23, 1957 reads "Lt. Col. Richard J. Gentry, right, of Sepulveda, has been named new commanding officer of Valley's only Marine Corps reserve unit. With him is Lt. Col. John V. Alden, who turned over unit 12-21 leadership because of new teaching assignment in San Luis Obispo. Both men served in Fifth Amphibious Corps during World War II."
