Title supplied by cataloger. Photograph caption dated December 2, 1987 reads, "The sale or release of unclaimed animals from county shelters to research labs comes under fire during a protest outside the Board of Supervisors' meeting. More than 100 placard-carrying activists decried the practice yesterday in downtown Los Angeles while the supervisors met inside. On "Stop Pound Seizure Day," actress and animal activist Cloris Leachman read a prepared statement to the board, but Supervisor Pete Schabarum insisted the public is being best served by the practice."
