This Oct. 19, 1942, view of K Street from just west of its intersection with Eighth Street reveals numerous businesses along both sides of the street: Dr. Edward F. Schneider, dentist, at 1105 Eighth St; Silver's Jewelers at 800 K St.; Eagleson's and Company Men's Clothing at 801 K St.; Berland's Shoe Store at 804 K St.; the Hotel Clunie at 805 K St.; United Jewelers at 807 K St.; Green-Heyden Company Shoes at 808 K St.; Price's Shoes at 809 K St.; Florsheim Shoe Store at 809 1/2 K St.; Kay Jewelers at 810 K St.; Charles E. Lewis Women's Clothing at 812 K St.; Leed's Shoe Store at 814 K St; De Von's Jewelers at 816 K St.; S.H. Kress & Company at 818 K St.; Hale Brothers Department Store at 825 K St.; Montgomery Ward and Company at 830 K St.; Tiny's Waffle Shop at 905 K St.; and the Fox Senator Theater at 912 K St. Silver’s was operated by Benjamin Silver, a native of Maryland and first-generation Russian-American. A repair shop and retailer of jewelry and watches, Silver’s slogan was “The Silver Way – A Year to Pay.”
