Not long after Barry filed the first paternity suit against Chaplin, federal prosecutors brought Mann Act charges against Charlie Chaplin in relation to Barry; he was acquitted.
Photograph caption dated April 3, 1944 reads, "Shown above is red-haired Joan Barry, the comedian's former prote´ge´, who told the jury that Chaplin had been intimate with her in New York. This he denied."
