Photograph caption dated June 21, 1962 reads, "Bess Derfler, 12, who attends Mt. Gleason Junior High School in Sunland, displays her emblem which was adopted by the Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce as the official emblem of the two communities. Bess, winner of a contest held among students in the twin cities area, received a plaque for her design."
