Description
Photograph of an aerial view of the Shell Chemical Corporation, in Torrance, August 1955. Looking northwest from an altitude of 900', the corporation spans several large rectangular plots of land. In the foreground, a road cuts through the right, dividing the plant from an empty field. Rows of house-like structures are followed by fractioning columns rising from a maze of pipes. Right of these stand several round tanks. The corporation takes up space on the left, and lines of automobiles sit in a lot sandwiched by several low structures, with rows of stacks at left. In the distance, the land stretches through what appears to be a heavily populated area. The mountains line the distance.
