Description
The Anointing Hall, situated near the pond, had been used for consecrating images of the Buddha and Bodhisattva with scented water according to the Mahāyana Buddhist traditions. The stone platforms where the water and the images were placed are presently visible, as are the stone conduits on three sides conveying the consecrated water out of the mandapa and leading to the pond. The rectangular guardstones are undecorated, except for the projections at the top. A narrow strip paved with stone slabs surrounds this structure, which is attributed to the late Anuradhapura period. The guardstones and balustrades are undecorated.
