Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1899-1989.
Bing Crosby, watching the morning workout at Del Mar Race Track. Co-founded by Crosby and Pat O'Brien in 1937, Del Mar took off after Seabiscuit out-dueled Ligaroti (co-owned by Crosby) in a neck-and-neck match race. Crosby also wrote the song "Where the Surf Meets the Turf" to commemorate Del Mar's opening; it has become the track's anthem.
