Flight tests for Lockheed's 8 Sirius at Union Airport (Bob Hope Airport) in Burbank (visible in the background). The Sirius is a single engine, propeller driven monoplane designed and built by Jack Northrop and Gerard Vultee in 1929, at the request of Charles Lindbergh. Two similar versions of the plane were built for the United States Air Force, one mostly made of wood with fixed landing gear, the other made of metal skin with a retractable landing gear. The plane's intended role was for utility transport. Photo dated: November 19, 1929.
