Photograph article dated April 2, 1962 partially reads, "Ramon Novarro leaned forward on the piano stool, clasped his hands in front of him, and spoke quickly in Spanish. His brown eyes livened. The former silent screen star who played the original Ben Hur, smiled slightly. 'It's an old Spanish saying. It means, 'Over a fallen tree, everyone makes wood.'" Novarro was quiet for a moment, his handsome face still. In seven words he had summed up his answer to a conviction March 26 of misdemeanor drunk driving with a prior conviction. Novarro, 63, who lives at 10938 Riverside Dr., North Hollywood, must return to Van Nuys Municipal Court April 13 for sentencing. Meanwhile, he's free on $276 bail. His attorney will appeal, Novarro said." Here, Novarro is pictured with a coveted George Eastman Film Award.
