Description
Portrait of Hamilton Whitney in ceremonial dress, with sword. On back: "Hamilton Whitney, Gene's father. Knight Templar" Born Wellsville, New York Oct. 13, 1834. Orphan at young age. Married May 21, 1864 to Olive Whitney (daughter of Eli), wounded seriously in Civil War. Farmer in Illinois, came to California 1877. Became a butcher 1886, moved to Templeton, was postmaster from 1892-1900. Retired to Oakland. Moved to Los Gatos, 1914 then San Jose. Children: Frank, Clarance"
