Working on the engine are Capt. Robert D. Harold, left, and fireman Donald R. Koppel.In [sic] the rear are, from left, Chief Engineer William Miller and Ned North, president of the Fire Commission. During the ceremonies, Koppel received one of the department's highest awards for bravery for a rescue he performed Feb. 8, 1962. Koppel and another fireman, already honored, were lowered on ropes from the Coldwater Canyon Bridge to catch a teen-ager who had fallen into the rain-swollen waters of the Los Angeles river."
