Photograph included in the Exhibit: L.A. Landmarks - Lost and Almost Lost. View of the Old Lankershim (later North Hollywood) station of Southern Pacific and Pacific Electric railways, seen here with a "Hendricks Builders Supply Company" sign over the abandoned structure. Built in 1895 by the Southern Pacific Railroads, this historical depot at Lankershim and Chandler boulevards is one of the oldest structures in the Valley as well as being one of Los Angeles' very few original, intact train depots. The arrival of the railroad opened up the Valley for immigrants and commerce. The Bonner Fruit and Cannery Co. processed food in a factory near the depot for many years, sending its products to market by train. The depot ceased to be used as a train stop about 25 years ago, but trains continued to roll past it until about 10 years ago. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority owns the depot and some of the property it sits on. The MTA has plans to restore the building. Photograph dated January 2000.
