A bank along Verdugo Wash freshly excavated by the flood waters. Note the evidence of previous heavy rainfall in building up this soil in successive layers of gravel, sand and clay. Note that the roots of the oaks are confined mostly to the dark silt layer beneath the gravelly deposit above. Metcalf. 1934
