Not long after Barry filed the first paternity suit against Chaplin, federal prosecutors brought Mann Act charges against Charlie Chaplin in relation to Barry; he was acquitted. Photograph caption dated March 29, 1944 reads, "While riding down elevator after testifying at trial, Joan Barry, center is interesting to these spectators."
