"Con referencia a la carta de usted fechada el 18 de febrero último, en que pide informes sobre unas cruses antíguas, descubiertas en el Sur de California, y desea saber si existen unas semejantes en este Musee, me permito manifestarle, que para dictaminar sobre el asunto no es suficiente la fotografía que acompañó a su carta, sino que se necesita que envíe usted una de ellas, indicando tamaño, material de que están hechas etc. [In reference to your letter dated February 18, which asks for reports about some ancient crosses discovered in Southern California, and wants to know if there are similar ones in this Museum, I would like to tell you, that the photograph that accompanied your letter is insufficient to rule on the subject, rather you need to send one of them, indicating size, material of which they are made, etc.]" -- first line.
