Mural commemorating Flight of the Earls (1607); 'The Flight of the Earls Imeacht na nlarlaí[.] Indiaidh 400 bliain [After 400 years]...that the eternal values of liberty and democracy have prevailed and the sons and daughters of the Planter and the Gael have found a way to share the land of their birth and live together in peace'; image represents right, Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone, and left, Rory O'Donnell, Earl of Tyrconnell, reading the news that 'Chichester Appointed Lord Deputy in Ireland'; flight ship in background. The Flight of the Earls took place in 1607 after the decisive victory of English forces at Kinsale in 1601; it is considered one of the turning points in Irish history.
