Description
Sacramento City and County Librarian Harold “Marty” Martelle speaks at the November 1974 ground-breaking of the Sacramento County Library’s Sylvan Oaks Branch, located at 6700 Auburn Blvd. Martelle served as Library Director from 1971 to 1981, during which he oversaw the construction of Arden-Dimick, Sylvan Oaks, Fair Oaks, Rancho Cordova and Southgate branches. Martelle was also a prisoner of war after the 1942 Japanese invasion of the Philippines.
