Description
A group of Salvadoran Army soldiers, including a nine year old orphan who was adopted and pressed into service, pose for a photograph with their weapons at a camp near Usulután. In front of them is a Madsen machine gun, a weapon of Danish design but of unknown origin and manufacture. Two soldiers on the left of the image each hold a Heckler & Koch (H&K) G3 battle rifle chambered to fire 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition. Richard Cross took this image in 1982 while covering the presidential election and War of Liberation in El Salvador.
