“The first mud hut at Chogoria with Dandi Makumi, our first evangelist teacher.” Exterior view of a mud and wattle hut with several people standing outside. Daudi Makumi, with his wife Priscilla Njeri, was one of the first three evangelists posted to Chuka Mwimbi from the Kikuyu mission in March 1916. They worked on their own until the mission at Chogoria was established in 1922. It was a virgin site and the first building raised was the prefabricated bungalow that became the Irvine family home. ❧ This image is from the first years of the Chogoria mission in Kenya, which was run by the Rev. Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974), from the collection entitled ‘Chogoria, 1922. The early days.”
