Description
V1p423a In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 423 top. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photo has been mostly covered by a printed caption: "BEFORE THE FIRE. Remember when the City Hall looked like this, in the days before 1906 and its destruction by the big fire?" What remains and is intelligible of the written text reads: "Note-See page 225 for photo of Statue after being taken down from the Fire Ruins." Night view looking northwest from 8th and Market shows the illuminated City Hall and a crowd gathered around Marshall Square, where the Pioneer Monument and a reviewing platform can be seen.
