Photograph caption dated June 23, 1956 reads "Cycling 'pack' hill climbs. Every Sunday is bicycle day for North Hollywood Wheelmen's Club and they think nothing of taking a trip into Simi or Antelope valley (sic), for exercise. It's slow going up but they reach 60 mph on downhill side. Race captains lead and follow 'pack' for safety protection. Automobiles are biggest hazard that open road racers face. All bikes are light-weight and equipped with 10-gears that work like automobile gears." The article partially reads "Piston-legged cyclists of the North Hollywood Wheelman's Club are using the rugged canyons surrounding San Fernando Valley as a training site to ready for the Australian Olympic Games this fall."; See images #00145214 through #00145219 for all photos in this series.
