4 images. New navigation aid (radar), 12 May 1952. Captain Jacobsen is inventor of new navigational aid system which allows mass movement of ships in or out of harbor, anchorages or docks, regardless of weather hazards. Capatin J. A. Jacobsen (Chief Port Pilot, Long Beach)

Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Gershon. Reporter: Gershon. 1: Captain J. A. Jacobsen with Tom Thorley, Long Beach Harbor Department engineer, standing at a chart table. This is how old method required two men to plot position and course of outgoing ships. By new method, pilot watching on radar scanner instantly knows position and course and other objects during the ship's movement. 2: Captain J. A. Jacobsen, Long Beach Port Pilot Chief, sitting and Tom Thorley, Long Beach Harbor Department engineer, at Long Beach pilot station radar. The Long Beach department new navigation aid devised by Captain Jacobsen permitting mass movement of ships regardless of inclement weather".
