Description
Photograph of kindling being brought to market on burros, Sonora Town, 1870. Four donkeys are immediately evident, with only the feet of two others to mark their presence. The wood is lashed to their backs by means of "aperejo" (pad) pack saddles. The one-story buildings of Los Angeles' plaza town are visible in the background, lining the unpaved road. Picture file card reads "in the 70th", and photoprint reads "Market on Aliso Street and around the Plaza".
