Description
Image of a wooden canoe in a forest clearing. The canoe has been hollowed out from a felled tree.
Such canoes were one of the primary modes of transport in Calabar and were used to trade between villages. Mary Slessor, the Scottish Missionary, had such a canoe made for her. She additionally built boathouses to protect her canoe from the weather, thieves and insects.
