Description
Image shows half-length view of Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. (1870-1957), landscape architect for Palos Verdes Project, looking over landscaping plans. Mr. Olmsted is shown wearing a tweed jacket, pipe in mouth, making notes on a table covered with maps and plans. Mr. Olmsted, a graduate of Harvard University (1894), formed the Olmsted Brothers landscaping firm with his half-brother, John Charles Olmsted (1852-1920), and by 1920 his projects included plans for metropolitan park systems and greenways across the country. Mr. Olmsted built a home in Palos Verdes on Rosita Place, designed by architect Myron Hunt in 1925. In 1929 he developed the guiding plan for California's state park system.
