SCOC leaders (South Central Organizing Committee) and 500 community members gathered at the site of the Compton Auto Plaza to rally in support of a proposal to turn the site into 600 low-cost single-family homes. Mary Patterson, holding 14-month-old son David, hopeful of a chance to buy one of the proposed homes joins others in symbolically staking out a plot on the vacant land.
