The Baroness came to Los Angeles from Germany in 1902, left, and then returned to Pasadena determined to build a castle resembling the one she owned on the Rhine. Built upon a 14-acre hilltop in Oak Knoll, the house was to have a frontage of 204 feet and be three stories high with a large basement. The house was never finished inside and was never occupied. The Baroness ran out of money after WWI and the property was taken over by the Alien Property Custodian. Aerial view of Baroness Zimmerman's residence in Pasadena, known as Castle Rosamond. This view shows a very long veranda at the front of the house and a tennis court at the back. Railroad tracks can be seen curving around the bottom of the hill.
