The Lincoln Place Apartments were designed by architects Ralph A. Vaughn and Heth Wharton and built from 1949-51 to satisfy the growing demand for housing among those working in the booming aircraft and aerospace industries. Now they have become part of the community debate concerning affordable housing for existing low- and moderate- income residents. The tenants association has been fighting the property owner, one of the largest real estate investment companies in the U.S., about its plan to tear down the homes and replace them with luxury townhouses. What will happen to Lincoln Place Apartments remains to be seen. Photograph dated July 11, 2002.
