Description
This 1955 photograph of Capitol Park shows the Veterans of the Spanish-American War memorial, which abuts the park's trout pond. The memorial, dedicated in 1949 and located just to the east of the Capitol Building, is known as the "Hiker Statue," hiker being a common name for an infantry soldier of the Spanish-American War. A plate at the base of the statue reads "Cuba-USA, Spanish War Veterans, 1898-1902."
