In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 41.
A tall tombstone dominates the photograph; in a plot bordered by a low wall stands two small rounded tombstones flanking a large tomb on a pedestal; above a second pedestal is a rectangular stone which contains an oval with information above John Bigler beneath a pointed arch, held up by corbels; above this stone stands an obelisk; behind the tomb are leafless trees and evergreens; other tall tomb can be seen in the right background.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"US. Minister to Chile & Peru. in 1857 to 61. John Bigler 3rd Governor of Calif. From 1852 to 1856. Born in 1806 Died in 1871. This grave in the old Masonic plot in the city cemetary..."
