Parts of the drawing are labeled in manuscript: on the left-hand side the tide marks are labeled near the pilings beneath the Fort as "High water" and "Dry at low water". Next to the vessel is written: "Susannah Explosion Vessel under command of Lieutenant Steuart". Below the vessel is written: "Piles driven since the Explosion on Sunday night".
