Photograph caption dated May 1, 1964 reads, "These two pit bulls are just 6 weeks old, but they are already Marine recruits. They were donated to the San Diego Marine Recruit Depot by Claude F. Harris, right, who gave the two mascots in name of the Valley Hills Obedience Club. Sgt. H. E. Harbour picked up the puppies who will go into basic training."
