Ron Carlson discusses his book, “Five Skies.” He begins by discussing each of his characters and the effort he put into making them sound real and building their relationships and dialogue. He explains that the book is the story of three men who have found themselves in the Rocky Mountains working on a construction project. One of the men, Arthur, is large and quiet and has a secret back in Los Angeles. His colleague is the charming kid named Ronnie. Ronnie and Arthur are lead by the foreman Darwin who is filled with a rage towards God, man and life in general. Carlson goes on talk about the healing process of food and how he tested the outdoor cooking techniques that he used in the book. Later in the interview he shares how he uses places he has been for inspiration in his writing.
