Description: Image of the Corliss steam engine as exhibited at the United States Centennial Exhibition held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1876; a well-dressed man and woman stand in front of the engine at right and are dwarfed by its size; stairs run up to various platforms for operating or maintaining the machinery, "Geo. H. Corliss Providence R.I." is lettered along the side of the apparatus.
