The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket; general contractor was L.E. Dixon Company. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. The arena was closed on March 19, 2016 and demolished to make room for a new soccer stadium. Photograph caption dated October 16, 1963 reads "Relations between Los Angeles Blades and San Francisco Seals, which have always been somewhat strained, apparently have not changed since last season. Several members of both teams found something to disagree about Tuesday night and the usual melee developed, as the Blades' Red Bowness [sic], No. 2; Norm Johnson, 12; Gordon Vejprava, 16, and Leo (The Lion) LaBine tangle with buried Seals. Maurice Mantha of San Francisco looks on. Note referee's efforts to break up fight." The game was held at the Sports Arena.
