The Socialist party has served its function and in effect, outlived its time, and many of its objectives have been taken over by the Democratic party. These are the convictions of Upton Sinclair, a life-long advocate of social reform, for decades an outspoken Socialist, and one-time candidate for governor of California. Sinclair, a Pulitzer prize-winner and the author of 90 books, sees President Lyndon B. Johnson's War Against Poverty as seeking the same ends and employing some of the same methods as those advocated by Sinclair in his EPIC (End Poverty in California) campaign of 30 years ago.
