Photograph caption dated January 24, 1961 reads "About to turn the first shovelful of earth for the new Mission Hills Shopping Center at the corner of Rinaldi street and Laurel Canyon boulevard are, from left, James Hook, Lorand West, architects, and Lee Toby, Miss Mission Hills. Councilman Everett G. Burkhalter and James E. Fain were also present for the ceremony."
