Supervisor Ford opened his door and stepped out into a crowd waiting for him. "Support a sewing project with county funds," the women demanded. "Clear the hall," Ford ordered, declaring the county would face bankruptcy if it assumed too many relief burdens. This didn't appease the women, who began to mill about noisily. The women were recently dismissed from a Works Progress Administration sewing project because of a slashing of federal funds. Photo dated: February 24, 1938.
