Description
“Group of Poka women, Mount Katoparampapa.” Group portrait showing several indigenous women sitting on the ground and behind them stands a western man with a box camera. The Poka people lived in underground dwellings in the hills of North West Nyasaland and spoke a variant of Tumbuka. They were close to the Livingstonia mission station established at Khondowe in 1891. ❧ Album containing photographs recording a voyage up the Shire River and scenes from the Livingstonia mission.
