Cathedral City, which was incorporated in 1981, is sandwiched between Palm Springs to the north, and Rancho Mirage to the south. The total area of the city is 19.5 square miles, and 2006 population was estimated at 48,000.
Aerial view of Cathedral City from approximately 10,000 feet; view is looking west. Sun Air Drive-In, located along Palm Canyon Drive, is barely visible on the lower middle (at the base of the mountain) as well as the Sun Air development, made up of numerous dwellings adjacent to it. Several more clusters of dwellings are scatterd between the mountain range at lower left. Photograph dated November 10, 1955.
