Dr. Ramesh Khatry , born in Nepal 1952 in a high caste Hindu family. Converted later to Christi Dr. Ramesh Khatry, født i Nepal 1952 i en højkaste hindufamilie. Blev senere kristen og døbt i 1972, og som følge heraf udstødt fra sin familie. Studerede teologi i Indien, 1976-79 og fik sin BD med udmærkelse. Tilbage i Nepal var han aktivt involveret i opbygning af den nepalesiske kirke (NCF), Nepals Bibel Institute (NBI) og en bibelskole, Nepal Bible Ashram (NBA). Blev i 1984 anklaget af Nepals hinduistiske regering for sine kristne aktiviteter og idømt 6 mdr.s fængselsstraf, der dog ikke blev til noget, fordi Ramesh Khatry fra 1986 studerede i Oxford, UK, hvor han i 1991 erhvervede sin ph.d. i det Nye Testamente. Disse studier har også medført, at han siden har udgivet 7 teologiske bøger om NT, på nepalesisk. Også på anden måde har Dr. Ramesh Khatry haft stor betydning for den teologiske kommunikation i Nepal. Fra 1992-98 som leder af Nepal Ebenezer Bible College, og herefter som uddannelsesleder ved ATEN (The Association of Theological Education in Nepal), der også omfatter et stort bibliotek. ATENs primære formål er at udvikle og stimulere teologisk uddannelse i landet. På familieplan er det siden lykkedes for Ramesh Kathry at blive forligt med sin hindufamilie, og de bor nu sammen i en typisk nepalesisk storfamilie. (Foto november 2001)

Dr. Ramesh Khatry , born in Nepal 1952 in a high caste Hindu family. Converted later to Christianity and was baptized in 1972, and because of this rejected by his family. Studied theology in India, 1976-79, and achieved his BD with distinction. Back in Nepal he was actively involved in founding of the Nepal Christian Fellowship (NCF), the Nepal Bible Institute (NBI) and the Nepal Bible Ashram (NBA). In 1984 Ramesh Khatry was accused by the Hindu Government of his Christian activities and sentenced 6 months of imprisonment. However, it didn't happen, as he from 1986 was studying in Oxford, UK, and earned his PhD in the New Testament 1991. Besides, these studies have led to a total of 7 theological books about NT, published in Nepali. In other ways as well, Dr. Ramesh Khatry has had a significant impact on the theological communication in Nepal. From 1992-98 as principal of the Nepal Ebenezer Bible College and from 1998 as Education Director of ATEN (The Association of Theological Education in Nepal), also including a large library. The primary purpose of ATEN is to upgrade and promote the theological education in the country. – As for his Hindu family, they have later been reconciled, and are by now living together in a traditional Nepali joint family.
